I had a fantastic opportunity to meet with folks at Wake Island Watersports in No. Sacramento on a beautiful July 2013 sunset. This aerial shot is of Pro Wakeboarder Anton Ryzenkov from Wake Island as I hovered appx. 30 ft above the water. Anton flew by the aerial camera rig in flight. An epic shot with his wake trailing his approach in the background. Other great shots were captured that day.
Wake Island is the first full-sized cable water park on the West Coast! They have a very hospitable and helpful staff with nice amenities to relax and enjoy watching the riders fly up the ramps, kickers and sliders. The location has a huge viewing deck, beach, picnic tables, snack bar and free WIFI. This place is a huge 80 acre watersports park has a five tower cable for wakeboard and wakeskaters, a two cable system for beginners, a boating lake, and lagoon for paddleboarding. Overall, a great place to enjoy all summer long.
As an avid wakeboarder and being pulled by a boat for many years, I gave the cable a quick try. Truly, a remarkable ride!! I enjoyed the peaceful pull of the cable. No boat noise or distractions and I didn't need to get out of the wake to find the flats. With cable, you are always in the flats. Wake Island offers plenty of on-the-water features such as ramps, sliders, and kickers. I was not ready to hit the features on my first run since I needed to film Anton that evening before sundown. On this cable ride, I had a glassy surface throughout and the tow point was 37 ft above me. With that, the corners where the cable turns can offer you some quick pull air time. The full view of the riding surface ahead of me was complete ride-freedom.
