Action Perspective: BMX Flatland Freestyle - Oahu, Hawaii

Completely mesmerizing! I had the opportunity to capture an action perspective of some remarkable maneuvers of a BMX Flatland Freestyle group in our 50th State.

Hawaii has a dedicated and very strong BMX Flatland Freestyle presence with some very talented riders. This committed BMX Flatland group are the only ones on Oahu, Hawaii that meet often for Sunday jam sessions that keep the sport alive and active. In September, Freestylers from the mainland and Japan will converge to the Island to experience Aloha Jam.

This video edit features dedicated riders, Lindsey Bode, Derek Takemoto, Adam Jung, Ronny Bosque, and Kala Yasuda along with others on their jam session at Makiki District Courts in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This form of artistic acrobatics has come a long way with newly engineered bikes equipped with zero offset forks, small front sprockets and more. In the clip you will see a rider conduct spin moves on pegs(front and rear) to surfing the handlebars. All WITHOUT the use of brakes! I was amazed at the zenlike balance and ability to utilize momentum with dance-like maneuvers while holding the rear pegs during a spin. It takes superb agility, skills and lots of practice to master those moves.

Congratulations Hawaii riders and long live your sport! See you guys again soon. Aloha!

Appreciating the Nature of Flight

The real aerial in the sky: birds. Engineers at the Bionic Learning Network have replicated the nature of of flight. Biomimicry is a remarkable science where principles in nature can be applied to technology and engineering. Similar components are used in the UAV multi-rotor industry: Flight controller, transmitter, motors, carbon fiber, aerodynamics and propulsion. But two things standout in this project. Lightweight design(1 lb. and 6 ft wingspan) and electromechanical efficiency (25w takeoff, 16-18w in flight.) Great advancements in the aerial industry are yet to come.

Aloha Friday - Enjoy your Weekend!

Here is a little reflection of work life as we know it. It's Hawaii's approach to the Mainland's "TGIF". Aloha in means "Hello" and "Goodbye." Aloha Friday is the day of the week to say Aloha to your work week and Aloha to your wonderful and precious weekend time. Time to decompress from the workweek, spend memories with family, gatherings with friends, enjoy hobbies, or possibly time to reflect on your life.

Remember to choose "Work to Live" not "Live to Work."

Aloha from Romano Aerials!

Footage was taken at Waimanalo Beach and Makapu'u Beach in Hawaii. Gorgeous beaches on the north eastern side of Oahu. Makapu'u is a great body surf and boogie boarding location. I used an action camera with waterproof housing GoPro HERO3+: Black Edition
