Aerial Photography and Videography using UAV/Drone Technology

The Blade is a great starter quadcopter with great agility. Durable and fun to fly. Can reach up to 1,500 ft distance from your transmitter. Good ease of use and more affordable than the DJI Phantom. About $400.

25 minute flight time. GPS Stabilized. Altitude sensor. 2 axis gimbal with built in transmitter. First person view(FPV). Great package for about $825.

MOST POPUAR drone on the market! This is the lowest price camera drone from the DJI Phantom series. All you need is your GoPro and you are up in the sky. This is a ready-to-fly system with transmitter, battery, charger and propellers.

This is one great hexacopter platform that is is already equipped with an HD camera. 12 channels FPV Radio with On Screen Display(OSD) and large 5" screen with data feedback.

DJI Phantom is what revolutionized the ready-to-fly quadcopter industry. Train with me so you can be confident to pilot your own equipment.

Having spare prop's is a necessity. Replace your white props with carbon fiber props. You will feel the difference, plus your footage will improve as well. Keep the white ones as your spares. Inspect your blades often. Learn to properly balance your props and ensure tightness.

FPV stands for First Person View. You will be able to see what the onboard camera is recording as you fly it. Find out about your regulations on FPV and line-of-sight(LOS) flying for safety.

This is the ultimate platform for high-end cinematic videography. Made by DJI and has a camera payload capacity for a Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

GIMBALS

A GIMBAL is a device that keeps the camera steady and horizontal during flight. It can also pan down for overhead shots.

Yes, you can send up a higher performance camera under your aerial platform. This Gimbal is for your Sony NEX-5N which is a much lighter payload than your Cannon cameras.

Ever launch and your rig tips over. Protect those props.

Also, to help with visual orientation, paint the front two guards another color other than white. Remember, never fly over large crowds.

A more affordable configuration for the GoPro is the Storm Drone 6 which starts at $700 base platform. Great for beginners with a great compact platform.

For fun flights via your phone. and short range. Great practice quad. The Parrot was pre-DJI products and still popular for its front and vertical camera plus the backward flips and barrel rolls. Now it comes with with HD video which can be shared quickly on your phone. At this price, and with the foam protection, it is a great starter before you go big.

Great multi charger! These 5,200 mAh packs provide 25-28 min. flight time! Buy a digital timer too. As an RC pilot, we need to end our "flight trance" one battery at at time.

MINI-QUAD'S

Maybe you don't want to spend $1,000 yet. These mini-quads have similar piloting characteristics as the big boy quads. Get good at maneuvering these guys and you will be better prepared with your flying agility.  I find folks who practice their skills with these little guys, are more confident pilots and less likely to crash when they get to the larger/heavier setups. Your video capture is a lot smoother too!

At $60-70, this is one, very popular and well recommended, mini-quad!! Very similar maneuverability as the larger quads. Try flying these through obstacles and between trees. You will be a well prepared pilot when you get to the $800+ multi-rotors!

Having a wider footprint makes for better landings and "catches."

So you charged and packed all your LiPo's the night before your next shoot. Are you confident that battery in your rig is ready for a full flight? This Capacity Checker plus a digital timer is a must. End your "flight trance" one battery at a time! :-)
